Please only complete this assignment if you were not able to get the handout distributed in class on Wednesday! Reflect on your self-selected chapter of The Narrative of Frederick Douglass and respond: What do you think is the main message or purpose of this Chapter?
To demonstrate the lack of justice for slaves; that slavery is an unnatural condition for blacks or whites; to show how slavery changes individuals; to show the cruelty of slavery; to demonstrate that slavery damaged familial bonds; to show that rebellion is natural; to take a stand; to demonstrate religious hypocrisy? Etc.
Which of the types of imagery--visual; tactile/kinesthetic; auditory; olfactory; gustatory helps Douglass make this claim? How does this type or these two types of imagery work together to help make Frederick's point more effective? Answer these questions in a reflection of at least one full page. Feel free to include a quote or two and your reaction or responses to that passage. How did the use of the imagery make you as a reader react or respond? If you received the handout-- you are pretty much doing the exact same thing. Your response should be at least one page or more!
