https://padlet.com/lguy2/vrp48y9icveax707

Today, we will begin our reading Oedipus Rex, by Sophocles, as translated by Paul Roche. Before we begin reading, or as we read, we will learn about the Origins of Greek Drama/Western Theatre/Tragedy (Development)through lecture, short videos, and old school PowerPoints.  The objectives are historical: to understand the historical background and the foundations of modern theatre; literal--to understand the literary archetypes found in Oedipus; to learn the literary techniques found in all tragedies: irony, catharsis.  Lets start with a great background video: An Introduction to Greek Tragedy.

Questions to understand: How did Greek drama develop? What were some of the stylistic developments of Greek tragedies/plays? What are some of the components or what makes Greek tragedy effective? Who were the giants of Greek Tragedy? Why are Greek tragedies so alluring/fascinating?

You will take notes.  Look for answers to the following: Why are Greek tragedies so popular? With what issues do the tragedies grapple? What questions do the plays deal with?

Modes of Learning: Warm-up/lecture; videos and biographies, time lines & Reflective Journals.

2. Article of The Week: This week's article of the week is a whole class article: The Ways We Lie by Stephanie Ericcson. The article is an example of Exemplification.  After reading, upload your SOAPS Analysis in Schoology.  Remember, assignments lock close after the period ends to ensure you are using your class time to work on the assignment and not work for another class or subject!  We will continue presentations on Wednesday!

Agenda for Monday 2/7/22 period 5

 1. Use the period to write, and re-read your Archetype Mini-Research Paper. Remember, even though the essay is largely summary--it should be written/summarized in your own words. You give credit to your sources by using an attributive tags, According to ..........,"..............".  If you quote, you must use quotation marks and attributes or acknowledge the source.  Don't forget your screenshots of images of your archetype in a film or show or literature.  This assignment counts for TWO grades: one written, and one oral participation as we will present our research TOMORROW in class!
