H. Expository Composition p. 6

1. Re-read Chapter 3 of The Fall of Rome and select two quotes from that chapter and create two dialectical journal responses. At the bottom of one of your two responses, create either an Author and You question (Level 2) or an On My Own Question for discussion in class on Monday.
2. Finally, study for your Nickel and Dimed Exam, slated for next week on Monday (Wednesday at the latest).
3. Begin thinking about your interviewees for the Interview project. No interviews are due on Monday, but you may begin the process.

H. English Ten

1. Use five adjectives to describe Creon.
2. Then, use your text (Antigone) and find and copy one piece of evidence (textual detail, or quote) to support each one of the adjectives you wrote down.  You will have a total of five words, followed by examples to support each adjective.
3. Re-read Act 1, scenes 1 and 2.

Today in class, we read the Prologue of Antigone.  It is on page 772 of the Prentice Hall text and page 688 of the Green Text. We describe Antigone using five adjectives and 5 to describe Ismene.

AP English Literature p.4

1. Re-rad Chapter six of The Picture of Dorian Gray. Select two quotes from chapter 6; and two from chapter 7. Respond to each of your quotes in a full folded page entry.  Be sure to copy the quote at the very top of your page and include the page number. Lastly, read a portion of chapter 8. Select a quote and respond using response starters.  There may be a brief reading quiz on tomorrow!

H. Expos. Comp Period 6

Continue reading and finish chapter 2 of The Fall of Rome. Select two quotes, one can be from chapter 1 if you like, and write a response using either the Say/Mean/Matter strategy or using the response starters. You must have two total responses.

1. Review Origins of the Greek Theatre in your textbook page 768-up. Then, download the Reflective Journal and complete all sections.
2. Complete your reading of your Article of the Week and then complete your SOAPS sheet.

H. Expository Comp. Period 6

1. Re-read, if needed, The Fall of Rome Chapter 1. After finding five adjectives to describe Mr. Washington; you will identify and write down evidence for each adjective (including page number).
2. Continue reading/reviewing Nickel and Dimed Chapter 3, or sections you need to review.  Our unit exam will be this Thursday.
3. For those who attended the Mt. Saint Mary's presentation, please stop by room 114 to write your introduction essay draft at lunch.  You only need 15-20 minutes. 

AP English Literature Period 4

1. Complete scoring of three essays: essays #A; #B; 3C from the Fall 2015 Released Open Question. For each essay scored; be sure to use language from the rubric to write a written justification of that essay. You should have three paragraphs: one for each essay scored.
2. Complete your multiple choice questions and answer choices for The Picture of Dorian Gray. Computer sources should not be used. All questions must be authentic, student created questions. Your team may need to come to room 114 during nutrition; lunch; break or afterschool to finish. Posters must be finished by Thursday.
3. Continue reading The Picture of Dorian Gray Chapter 5-7. Study questions will be posted as a document under class readings and handouts.

Yes! We have finally embarked on Chapter 3. Answer the following questions which are based on the latter part of Chapter 2; and the beginning of Chapter 3
1. Why do you think Barbara spends so much time (book space) writing about her co-workers and the relationship she has developed with them? Why does she tell us about their ups and downs and their determination to continue working? How does this add to her overall purpose or argument?
2. Who is Caroline? How is her acquaintance with Barbara quite ironic? I mean, how is Caroline's similar to Barbara's study but...real?
Be ready to discuss on Monday. Also bring your books and phones.

Re-read Chapter one of The Picture of Dorian Gray. Complete ALL of the Close Reading Questions and be prepared to engage in a discussion about them.  Additionally, be prepared to answer more questions and then to do some writing about the chapter.

1. Finish reading the chunk of Nickle and Dimed pages 76-98 of your textbook. (If you are reading from the pdf  the pages are different, I believe 46-60).
2. Based on your reading, select one quote, the page number and write a half page folded response to that quote.
3. Then, be sure to complete the Role Sheet for your role in your group. If you do not have a printer, you may copy down your job on your own sheet of paper.  The Role Sheets are found under Classroom Readings and Handouts at Litexplorations

AP English Literature Period 4

1. Under Class Readings and Handouts, click the link to The Official Biography/Website of Dorian Gray. Read the Biography (all of it by clicking next at the end of each page. There are four short pages of biographical information). Based on your reading, answer the following:
How are Oscar's parents "odd" for their time? Especially Oscar's mother? What activities did each of them do that made them remarkable for the time period? 2. Briefly summarize Oscar's education. In whcat subjects did he excel? How might his educational background and that of his parents be reflected in his novels? Specifically, what types of texts did Oscar the student know exceedingly well? It follows, then, that what types of texts will be included or referenced in his (Oscar's) works?
2. Oscar Wilde is famous for his wit.  Click on the Tab (On his Official Biography/Website) Quotes.
Select one quote from each of the following sections: Men; Women; Life; Love; People that you find truthful, ironic, thoughtful; funny or amusing.  (You will have 5 quotes in total). Have at the beginning of class on Wednesday to discuss. Be sure you have written them down.

H.Expository Comp. P.6

1. Create a Timeline of the Top 8 events from your "My Love Affair Essay". This time though, use marker or ink and write your timeline on white paper or cardstock. Evenly space ideas.  You may even type your timeline or use a temple.
2. Create some sort of collage or visual to accompany your "My Love Affair" Essay. If you need supplies, stop by. You dont need to "go all out" but because your essays had such sensory details, I thought it would be nice to draw, or create something that fits, or goes with your essay!

1. Create three Level 3 On My Own; 3 Author and You; and two Right There Questions for the Cold Equations.
2. Finish your Plot Graph for The Cold Equations.
3. Continue reading your Independent Reading Novel with 4 journals weekly. Most of you should be finished and reading for Book #2 next Week.

H. Expository Comp. Period 6

Carefully read Chapter two of Nickled and Dimed. For every eight  pages of reading, select one quote or statement from the book. Copy it down and respond and interact with that statement. What does it reveal? Predict? Show? Connect with? Your response should be at least a folded page (hot dog way)
Also, answer the following questions: 1. How much are customers charged for Maid Service? How much are the maids actually paid? 2. Why does Barbara break out in a rash? What is she able to do that most workers would not, had they broke out in a rash? When Barbara needs help, later on in this chapter, she learns that most of the assistance that is available for the poor is during work hours. Explain the irony in that situation. Why do you think Ted gives Barbara a raise when she doesn't work as much as the other maids, and is not as loyal?

2. Final Draft of your Essay is due on Monday. You have the option of submitting only the Narrative Portion on Monday, and Continuing to work on the Expository part.
