2. Then, we will use the article, your understanding of the characters, events, actions, in The Fall of Rome to approach our character analysis/juxtaposition essays differently.
For period 5: We will revisit the poem, "We Wear The Mask" tomorrow and the partner SOAPS.

Expository Composition

We Wear The Mask
Today we will read and discuss the poem, "We Wear The Mask" by Paul Lawrence Dunbar. After doing a SOAPS with a partner, we will create questions: 2 Author and You and two On My Own.
Then we will share our questions and respond to the following:
Who in The Fall of Rome wears a mask? Why? Does Rashid wear a mask? Mr. Washington? Why?
How might we wear masks? Many?
Then we will ensure that our drafts of our character analysis essays are uploaded and we will peer edit them.
Homework: Write an academic summary of the poem, "We Wear The Mask"? Be sure to TYPE UP and UPLOAD your Draft of your Character Analysis Essay in Schoology.

H. Expository Compositon Period 6

DONT Answer the following questions but you SHOULD be able to answer them had you finished the novel.  Be sure to have finished by Wednesday as you will have some sort of assessment--quiz or discussion or writing demonstrates that you have read. Please bring The Souls of Black Folk as well and be sure to have typed your Essay Draft and uploaded it in Schoology.
1. What happened in the race/run between Rashid and Washington, and how does this foreshadow the conflicts ending.
2. Rashid is again confronted by his social class when he visits Gerald's house.  What incident again reveals the rift in classes between Rashid and Gerald?
3. What atypical moment happens between Gerald and Rashid that also foreshadows Rashid's resilience?
4. Mr.Washingtons really shows his "ass" at the visit to Rashid's home town.  Exactly what happens on the recruitment visit?
5.  What points does Rashid make during his chapel speech and what irks Mr. Washington about me?
6. What exactly happens to Rashid's leg? Ironically, how does this impact the relationship between Rashid and Gerald?

Chapter 8 Reflective Assignments

1. How does it feel to interact with members of your race who are from different socio-economic status? When did you learn you were more "well off" than a friend of your same ethnic group? Or when did you realize you were/are working class? How? Was it awkward or embarassing?
