AP English Literature Period 1 & 6
Continue and finish reading Chapter 4: Past is Prologue. Prepare for a reading quiz on Wed. (period 6) and Thur. for Period 1. Period one response: How do the events in chapter 4 explain Mr. Washington's responses in each of the following cases: (1) His lack of reaction when Mr. John Hays, the headmaster says " You (meaning Mr. Washington) are truly a credit to your race. (pg. 8)
(2) His lack of empathy when his black male colleagues suggest that each Chelsea student take a class in Black History; (pg. 9)
(3) His resistance to mentor young black males at Chelsea; (pg 12)
(4) His preference of the word "Negro";
(5) His unease at meeting Rashid (pg. 13)
(6) HIs surprise at Rashid's request for extra-credit. (pg 13)

Titles include "It Sifts from Leaden Sieves"; "Living in Sin": "The Unknown Citizen"; "The Hound" and this week's choice. You have done a TPCASTT Analysis and answered questions in your Perrine Text about the selected poem. Be prepared to write about one of the classwide poems.
3. Period 1: Bring your Major Data Worksheet on Thursday. Both classes bring your throw-back to class on Thursday.
4. Literature Circle #2 will begin March 5th Need a Novel with a Female Protagonist.

2. Complete a literature roll circle sheet. Perhaps everyone can be a discussion director!!!!
3. Bring the Fall of Rome and your poetry stuff.
