Welcome to Expository Composition 2022 period 4

Good Afternoon! We have many goals for today and this week. I will do most of the talking today, and you will do some writing.  Our goals are for me to create a seating chart; obtain a writing and reading thumbprint through our Opening Day Assessment; review our Class Rules and Class Routines; learn more about the course through exploration of the syllabus, and the LAUSD Standards as well as to begin getting to know each other and the tools that I use for the class--including the text, Patterns For College Reading and Writing. Here is our First Assignment-- The Opening Day Assessment. It should take us all 20-35 minutes.

Opening Day Writing Prompt: Carefully read the following Opinion Piece: Why Making Friends in MidLife Is So Hard by Katharine Smyth.  Then, after reading the essay featured in the Atlantic, write a one or more page response that answers the question-- Why is Making Friends in Midlife So Hard? using evidence from the essay. Your response should demonstrate that you understand and can summarize the authors claim, point of view as well as add your own.
