1. All students are responsible for reading one novel of at least 200 pages that is at grade level. Many of you checked out your novels during the last two days of class. If you did not, you still must read a novel that you have not previously read before.
2. For every 10-18 pages, you will select a meaningful quote that is moving, revealing, or insightful. You will copy it and the page number on the left and then do a Say/Mean/Matter (or Reveal) response for each quote. Say means to put in your own wors or to paraphrase or translate. Mean is what the author intended to say or point out--this can be short. The Matter or Reveal should answer one or more of the following questions: What does the quote illustrate or show about the characters or situation in the text? Or what truth about humankind is illustrated by this quote?
You must have a minimum of 18 entries.
2. You must read, revise your Declaration of Independence.
